ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team lost to Arkansas Tech on Tuesday at home in four sets by final scores of 25-20, 16-25, 25-27, and 26-28.
The Tigers (5-10, 1-3 Great American Conference) used a pair of 4-0 runs midway through the first set to erase an early deficit and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Golden Suns (10-3, 4-0 GAC) responded with a dominant second set featuring two 5-0 runs. Tech hit .387 in the second set, while the Tigers were held to their lowest hitting performance of the match at .128.
The third and fourth sets featured back-and-forth rallies. In the third, Tech held a 22-18 lead when Ouachita made a push, holding set point at 24-23 on a combo block of
Kayla Steinmeyer and
Karlie Bonam. Tech responded with four of the last five points to take 2-1 lead in the match.
Ouachita used its largest scoring run of the game, six straight points, to come back from down 10-4. The Tigers again held set point at 24-23 on a kill from
EJ Day, but Tech rattled off two in a row to take back the advantage. With Ouachita holding another set point at 26-25, the Suns scored three in a row to stay undefeated in GAC play.
Steinmeyer led the Ouachita offensive attack with 21 kills, while also helping out in the back row with 10 digs. Day finished with 10 kills.
Rileigh Fielder chipped in with eight kills, and
Brooke Jones added six kills with no errors on 11 swings for a team-high .545 hitting percentage.
Kellen Church and
Temi Fayiga each reached the 20-assist mark with 25 and 20, respectively. They both also reached double-digits in digs with 13 and 12, respectively.
The Tigers are back in action on Thursday, September 30 on the road against Southern Arkansas. First serve is 6 p.m. in Magnolia.
