ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team used a balanced offensive attack to beat Arkansas Tech for the first time since 2014 in a 92-82 victory on Saturday at home.
The Tiger victory snapped a 17-game losing streak to the Golden Suns. With the win, Ouachita improves to 6-7 overall and 4-5 in Great American Conference games. Tech falls to 7-6 overall and 4-5 in GAC games.
Of the nine players that had minutes for Ouachita on Saturday, seven reached double-digits in scoring with
Laney Mears leading the way with 17 points, followed by
Aspen Thornton with 15,
Makayla Miller with 14,
Makenzie Schilmoeller with 12,
Claudia Vanzant and
Nxerro Maluw with 11, and
Lauren Wright with 10.
The Tigers never trailed in the contest and led for all but one minute. There were two tie scores early in the first period. Ouachita led by as much 12 early in the third period.
