ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team dominated the end of the first and the beginning of the second half to cruise to a 72-51 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday at home.
After a low-scoring 10-10 battle in the first period, the Tigers (7-8, 5-6 GAC) outscored the Savage Storm (7-8, 5-4 GAC) 19-8 in the second period and 28-15 in the third to pull away. The Storm outscored Ouachita 18-15 in the fourth period, but only managed to trim its deficit down to 16 points with five minutes remaining.
The win was Ouachita's first over Southeastern in women's basketball since 2015, snapping an 11-game losing streak to the Storm.
The Tigers had four scorers in double-digits, led by
Aspen Thornton with 17 points, followed by
McKenzie Jones with a career-high 15 points off the bench.
Laney Mears added 14 points.
Makayla Miller picked up her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Nxerro Maluw also reached double-digits in rebounds with 10.
Ouachita wraps up its four-game homestand on Saturday against East Central.
