ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Volleyball sent their seniors out with a bang, putting on a show with a dominating sweep over Arkansas Tech to close out the home schedule.
After the match, Ouachita honored their six seniors,
Audrey Gallagher,
Lexie Castillow,
Karli Ferguson,
Bethany LaTurno,
Abigail Roberts and
Joni Schneider.
The set scores were 25-23, 25-21 and 25-13. The Tigers led for the entire match. The only time Ouachita was not in the lead was at the very start of each set.
This year marks the first time since at least 1996 that Ouachita has swept Arkansas Tech twice in the same season. This season also marks the first season since 2012 that Ouachita has swept rival Henderson State twice in the same year.
Speaking of sweeps, 15 of the Tigers 17 total wins and eight of the nine GAC wins so far this season have come via the sweep.
Ouachita outhit the Golden Suns .383 to .178, the Tigers' third highest hitting percentage of the season.
Riley Braziel led the offence with 14 kills on the night with a .400 hitting percentage.
Karli Ferguson was right behind with 13 kills of her own, but with a .524 hitting percentage that led the team.
The 13 kills are a career-high for Ferguson.
Braziel and Ferguson both tied for the lead in points with 14 apiece.
Courtney Hanson led with 37 assists.
Hanson also paced the front-line defense with four blocks. Ferguson and
Haley Fairchild both had two as well.
Lexie Castillow recorded two aces on her final match in SPEC.
Joni Schneider led the defense in digs for her final home match with nine. She was followed by Castillow and Braziel who each had seven.
The final match of the regular season will be on Thursday as the Tigers will travel to Magnolia, Arkansas to take on the Muleriders of Southern Arkansas.
