SEARCY, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team opened Great American Conference play on Thursday night on the road with a 66-51 loss to Harding University.
The Tigers (2-2, 0-1 GAC) cut what was a 13-point deficit in the second quarter down to just two early in the third period, and ended up outscoring the Bisons (5-3, 1-0 GAC) 19-16 in the third to trail by only six heading into the final 10 minutes.
However, Harding controlled the fourth period, outscoring Ouachita 20-11 in the frame to pull away for the comfortable win.
With a combined 45 fouls called, Thursday's game lasted more than two hours and featured a combined 66 free throw attempts. Both teams made 19 free throws.
The major difference in the game was Harding's rebounding performance with a 54-27 margin, including 27 offensive rebounds that led to 27 second-chance points for the Bisons.
Makayla Miller and
Madeleine Tipton led the Tigers with nine points each. Miller added a team-high four rebounds.
The Tigers will be back in action this Saturday, December 3 at home against Arkansas Tech. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
