TIGERS HOLD OFF STORM FOR ROAD WIN

DURANT, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team bounced back from its Thursday night loss to defeat Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday by a final score of 59-53.

The win completes the season sweep for Ouachita (9-15, 7-13 GAC) over Southeastern (10-16, 8-12 GAC). The Tigers beat the Savage Storm 72-51 on January 20 at home.

Four Tigers reached double-digits in scoring in Saturday's win, led by Aspen Thornton with 16 points. Laney Mears followed with 14, Makayla Miller had 11, and Claudia Vanzant had 10. Lauren Wright had a game-high 11 rebounds, her third double-digit performance of the season on the boards.

The biggest scoring difference of the contest came in the second quarter, when the Tigers outscored the Storm 16-12 and held as much as an eight-point lead with just under three minutes remaining before halftime. Ouachita led by five at the break.

Ouachita ran out to a double-digit lead starting midway through the third period following a 9-0 run. Ouachita's biggest lead was 14 with 3:07 remaining in the third after Makayla Miller converted a steal into a fastbreak layup to put her team up 40-28. Southeastern closed out the period on a 6-0 run to trim Ouachita's lead down to six heading into the final period.

The Tigers held off Southeastern in the fourth, despite the Storm getting as close as five on two different occasions. Ouachita led for nearly the entire game, only trailing for one possession late in the first period.

The Tigers are back in Arkansas for the final two games of the regular season, starting Thursday, February 24 at home against Southern Arkansas for Senior Day. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
