ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team rallied late to have a chance to take a lead with under two minutes remaining, but ended up falling to Southern Arkansas on Thursday night at home by a final score of 86-82 on Senior Day.
The Tigers (9-16, 7-14 GAC) honored their four seniors immediately following the game, which are
Lauren Wright,
Kailen Wright,
Jessi Bennett, and
Kylie Jo Kilgore, who all participated in their final home games.
Ouachita rallied from down 12 with 3:37 remaining to down by just one with 1:25 remaining with a combination of steals, three-pointers, and made free throws. However, Muleriders (13-14, 8-13 GAC) held off Ouachita's late surge to spoil the Tigers' home finale.
The first two periods were controlled by SAU with the Muleriders leading for all by 25 seconds. Ouachita forced four lead changes and six tied scores in the second half.
Aspen Thornton led all scorers with 30 points, 22 of those coming in the second half.
Makayla Miller turned in her sixth game of the season with at least 20 points, finishing with 23. Miller also had a game-high eight rebounds.
Laney Mears also reached double-digits in the loss with 10 points.
The Tigers close out the 2021-22 season this Saturday on the road against Arkansas-Monticello.
