ARKADELPHIA – Freshmen led the way for the Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team on Saturday in a back-and-forth five-set loss to Auburn-Montgomery on day two of the Reddie-Tiger Invitational.
The Tigers started trading set wins in the first with a 25-22 win, followed by a 25-19 win for AUM in the second, a 25-22 win for Ouachita in the third, and a 25-14 win for AUM in the fourth. The Warhawks took the deciding fifth set with a 15-12 margin.
Four Tigers finished the match with double-digits in kills, led by junior
Kayla Steinmeyer with 13. Three freshmen followed with
Emily Adams turning in 12 kills and four blocks,
Haley Fairchild with 11 kills, and
Riley Braziel with 11 kills and nine digs.
Karli Ferguson also finished with double-digits in points with eight kills and six total blocks.
Lexie Castillow and
Kellen Church paced the defense with 24 and 17 digs, respectively. It was Castillow's 38th career match with at least 20 digs.
The Tigers close out the weekend on Saturday with a 4:30 p.m. matchup against Cameron.
