ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2022 season on Sunday at home with a 2-1 final against Southwest Baptist.
Megan McKay scored Ouachita's first goal of the season and her first career goal with 47 seconds remaining in the first half after working around her defender on the left side to give the Tigers (1-1) the lead at the break.
The Bearcats (0-1-1) equalized the score in the 64th minute, taking advantage of a shot that bounced off the goalpost. SBU's Isabel Schelhammer was there to collect her first goal of the year.
Fifth-year senior
Jaymee Dotson scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute off a free kick after the SBU goalkeeper was called for being offside on a goal kick. It was Dotson's 21st career goal and ninth game-winner.
Ouachita's offense held possession for nearly 70 percent of the game, resulting in a 26-10 advantage in total shots and a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Michele Snow and
Carina Chavarria split the win in goal. Snow totaled three saves in the first half. Chavarria had one in the second.
The Tigers hit the road for the first this season this Thursday, September 1 against Union University. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Jackson, Tennessee.
