DENTON, Texas – The Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team split a pair of matches against Lone Star Conference teams on Friday at the Denton Volleyfest, sweeping Midwestern State 3-0 in the morning match and falling to Eastern New Mexico in five sets in the afternoon match.
It was the first action for the Tigers (3-3) away from the Sturgis Physical Education Center this season. Ouachita is back in action at the Denton Volleyfest on Saturday, taking on Fort Hays State at 1 p.m and the host Texas Woman's University at 7 p.m.
In the win over Midwestern State (1-4), the Tigers won by final scores of 25-18, 25-22, and 25-19.
Kayla Steinmeyer and
Emily Adams led the offensive attack with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Courtney Hanson turned in her second 40-plus assist match of the year with 41.
Lexie Castillow and Hanson paced the defense with 17 and 10 digs, respectively.
In the loss to ENMU, the Tigers jumped to out a two-set lead with big wins in the first two frames 25-13 and 25-15. However, the Greyhounds rallied to win three in a row – 25-15, 25-19, 15-8 – to spoil Ouachita chance at an undefeated day.
Riley Braziel turned in her best performance so far with 14 kills and only one error on 39 swings for a .333 percentage. Steinmeyer added 13 kills for her fifth double-digit performance of the year in the kill category. Hanson finished with 36 assists. Castillow added 23 digs.
