DENTON, Texas – The Ouachita Baptist University volleyball team closed out its weekend trip to Texas with a 3-2 loss to Texas Woman's on Saturday behind a historic offensive performance from freshmen and high school teammates
Emily Adams and
Courtney Hanson.
Adams finished the match with 27 kills and just four errors on 54 swings for a final percentage of .426. It was the highest number of kills in a single match for Ouachita since 2007, when Breanne Garrett posted seven matches with at least 25 kills, including her best of 31.
Hanson was there for most of Adams' kills with a final total of 51 assists. It was the first 50-plus performance since Stormi Leonard posted several in the 2018 season.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match with a pair of 25-23 wins. However, the Pioneers (4-3) rattled off three in a row, including a pair of 25-23 wins of their own and a 15-17 win the fifth and deciding set.
In addition to Adams and Hanson,
Kayla Steinmeyer had 16 kills, and
Lexie Castillow finished with 34 digs.
The Tigers open Great American Conference play on Tuesday, September 6 on the road against Arkansas-Monticello. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
