SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Ouachita Baptist University wrestling team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference competition with a come-from-behind 25-24 road win over Drury University on Wednesday.
The Tigers found themselves down 20-0 after the first four matchups in the lightweights and later down 24-6 through the first six. However, the heavyweights stepped up to get five of the final six wins and four straight wins to close out the dual, highlighted by pins from
Jaylon Otero (157),
Cole Eason (174), and
Johnny Green (285).
Brooks Schrimsher also aided in the rally with a 9-1 major decision victory in the 197 category.
William Martin was Ouachita's other winner with a hard-fought 8-7 win by decision in the 184, highlighted by a takedown in the final seconds to earn the win.
With Wednesday's win, the Tigers move to 4-2 overall in dual meets and 1-0 in GLVC competition. Ouachita is back in action this Sunday in Liberty, Missouri with a pair of GLVC matches, taking on Indianapolis at 12:30 p.m. and then William Jewell at 2 p.m.
