TIGERS TAKE DOWN SWOSU TO SNAP LONG SKID

ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita Baptist University women's basketball team snapped a 10-game losing streak to Southwestern Oklahoma State University with an 82-67 victory over the Bulldogs on Thursday night at home.

The Tigers (5-6, 2-5 GAC) bookended Thursday's win with dominating performances in the first and fourth periods. In the first Ouachita outscored SWOSU (3-9, 3-4 GAC) 28-15 and shot 67 percent from the field. However, the Bulldogs rallied back to keep the game close in the second and third periods, including forcing a pair of ties in the third.

Ouachita used a strong passing game and a dominating rebounding performance to seal the win with a 24-10 showing in the fourth.

Overall, Ouachita outrebounded SWOSU 53-24, including a 20-11 edge in offensive rebounds which led to 18 second chance points. The Tigers also turned in 20 assists on its 29 made field goals, nearly doubling up SWOSU in that category as well.

Three Tigers reached double-digits in scoring, led by Laney Mears with 20 points after connecting on six three-pointers in the win. Makayla Miller added 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Madeleine Tipton struggled from the field at 3-for-11, but still managed 10 points and helped Ouachita on the boards with six rebounds. Grayson Fairless turned in a career-high 12 rebounds in the win to go along with eight points. Gracen Williams led all players in assists by tying her collegiate career-high with eight.

Ouachita is back in action on Saturday at home against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. at Vining Arena.
