ADA, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's soccer team is heading into the postseason on a high note after coming from behind on Wednesday to beat East Central 2-1 on the road.
With the win, Ouachita (9-2-7, 6-2-4 GAC) climbs back into first place in the Great American Conference standings with 22 points, two ahead of Oklahoma Baptist, who lost on Wednesday to Southwestern Oklahoma tate. The Tigers can clinch the GAC regular season championship and the right to host the conference tournament with a Bison tie or loss on Saturday against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
As far as Wednesday's game against East Central (1-11-5, 1-5-5 GAC), the orange Tigers struck first with a goal in the 24th minute and held that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Similar to other recent games, Ouachita came out aggressive in the second half and scored in the first five minutes to take the lead.
The first goal came in the 51st minute on a header from
Reese Brown, assisted on a header from
Madi Vana. It was Brown's third goal of the season and Vana's first career assist.
The game-winner came just four minutes later with
Jamie Fowler's team-leading sixth goal of the season from the pass of
Amerie Thomas. It was Fowler's 22nd career goal and ninth career game-winner. Thomas' assist was a pass that split the defenders to set up Fowler for the punch in. It was her first assist of the year and second of her career.
Ouachita ended up with a 22-18 lead in total shots, a 16-5 lead in shots on frame, and a 7-2 lead in corner kicks.
