SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's soccer team is headed to the Great American Conference Tournament Championship game following a 1-0 win over Southern Nazarene on Thursday night.
Ouachita (10-2-7) advances to face the only team that has beaten the Tigers this season, which is the No. 1 seed and tournament host Oklahoma Baptist. The Tigers and Bison will meet again on Sunday, November 12 in Shawnee in the finals. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
The lone goal in Thursday's win over SNU (10-4-5) came in the second half in the 58th minute.
Following a throw-in in the deep offensive third on the left side of the goal,
Josilyn Kispert dribbled around a defender and then sent a pass to the middle of the field near the top of the box for a shot by
Madi Vana that got past the Oklahoma Baptist goalkeeper and into the net on the left side.
The goal was Vana's second of the season. It was Kispert's second assist of the year and sixth of her career.
The Tigers had two more scoring chances late in the second half on a pair of penalty kicks. The first was saved by OKB goalkeeper Gianna Bonnett, but she was called for a violation on the kick to give the Tigers another opportunity, which was again saved by Bonnett.
Fortunately, for the Tigers, Vana's goal was the only one needed as the Ouachita defense held the Crimson Storm to just one shot on goal in the entire game. The Tigers finished with a 15-6 lead in total shots and a 6-1 lead in shots on goal.
Michele Snow recorded her GAC-leading 10th shutout of the season and 26th of her career.
