ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's basketball team shot a season-low 26 percent from the field resulting in an 86-60 loss to Pittsburg State at home on Tuesday night.
The Tigers (2-1) finished the game 20-for-76 from the field, including 5-for-26 on three-pointers. The visiting Gorillas (4-0), meanwhile, shot an even 50 percent overall (31-for-62).
As the shot struggled to find the net for the Tigers, the Gorillas started to pull away in the second quarter, getting up by 10 in the first two minutes and eventually leading by as much as 16 midway through. The Tigers clawed back
After holding 45-31 lead at the halftime break, the Gorillas went on a 12-1 run in the third to get on top by 25 with 2:40 remaining. Despite an even 12-12 result in the final period, the deficit proved to be too much to overcome.
Laney Mears led the Tigers with 16 points and four steals.
Audri Winfrey had 10 points and five rebounds.
Grayson Fairless added eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Ouachita breaks for Thanksgiving and then returns to action this Saturday, November 25 against UT-Tyler for the first road game of the season. Saturday's tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
