Box Score WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – The Ouachita Baptist University men's basketball team's rally fell just short as it dropped a close road game to the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State by a score of 69-68.
Ouachita (10-11, 8-9 GAC) scored first on a jumper from
Alex Scariolo, but Southwestern (11-12, 7-10 GAC) was quick to answer back. The Bulldogs pushed ahead of the Tigers, expanding a lead to double digits at the 12-minute mark. The Tigers came back though, going on a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 17-17. Ouachita took a lead on a layup from
Ma'Darius Hobson with just under six minutes to go in the first half, but SWOSU answered back with a small run of its own. The next few minutes were back and forth with the Tigers gaining a one-point lead with a minute-and-a-half left to go in the first period, but a quick three-pointer from the Bulldogs sent the Tigers into the break trailing by two with a score of 32-30.
The Bulldogs scored first in the second half, but
Reggie Martin kept the lead to a single possession with a good jumper to answer. The Tigers were able to take back a lead on a jumper from
Alex Scariolo that came from a steal from Hobson. SWOSU answered right back and retook the lead. The Bulldogs held that lead for the next 15 minutes, with it ballooning up to as many as 13 points over that span. However, with just over two minutes left to go in the game, Ouachita was able to tie the game at 66-66 and then take a two-point lead on two good shots from
Tylar Haynes. Ouachita had a one-point lead with 1:49 left, but 47 seconds later, SWOSU took the lead back and held it for the last minute of the game and the Tigers fell 69-68.
Tylar Haynes put on a solid performance, putting up 18 points and 13 rebounds to earn him his third double-double of the season.
Alex Scariolo was next with 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Ma'Darius Hobson was right behind with 11 points to round out the top scorers in this afternoon's game. Hobson also played the entire 40 minutes in the game, the fifth time he's done that this season.
The Tigers will look to bounce back Tuesday, February 14 as they go for the season sweep of rival Henderson State in a game across the street.
