PENSACOLA, Florida – The fifth-ranked Ouachita Baptist University men's tennis team opened up its stop in Pensacola with a 4-3 win over 37th-ranked Auburn University-Montgomery on Tuesday in the team's fifth match this season against a ranked opponent.
The Tigers (7-5) earned the doubles point with convincing wins in first and second positions, respectively. In singles, it all came down to a tie breaker in first position with
Alex Blanchar taking on AUM's Joao Guariente. Blanchar clinched Ouachita's team victory with an ace to go 7-1 in the tiebreaker for a 7-6 win in the third set after each earned a 6-4 win in the first two sets.
Phil Exner had a tough win in second position singles that went into a third set. Exner rallied back from a 6-4 loss in the first for a convincing 6-1 win in the second and a 6-3 win in the third to earn the point.
Aaron Osmond was the first to earn a point in singles with a convincing win in sixth position.
Ouachita wraps up its stay in Pensacola against the No. 13 West Florida this Thursday.
