OUACHITA LEADS GAC IN SPORTSMANSHIP AWARDS

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Ouachita Athletics has earned four Great American Conference Sportsmanship Awards, which is the highest total among all league members for the 2022-23 year.

The Tigers won the award in women's cross country, men's cross country, men's basketball, and women's tennis. This is the third straight season for Ouachita's women's tennis team to earn the honor and the second straight for men's cross country. Overall since the inception of the award in 2012, Ouachita has now totaled 20 GAC sportsmanship awards scattered across eight different sports.

The GAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee created the award in 2012 to recognize teams that go above and beyond to promote good sportsmanship by student-athletes, fans, staff, and all others involved with events.

GAC Commissioner Will Prewitt said, "These awards emphasize the NCAA Division II focus on sportsmanship and game environment. We could not be prouder of what these programs have put forth on the field and in ways that aren't necessarily reflected in the outcome."

Ouachita also just finished its best season in terms of athletic performance since joining the GAC as a charter member in 2011. The Tigers finished fifth in final standings for both the GAC Commissioner's Cup and the GAC President's Trophy.
