RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Ouachita Baptist University football player
Josiah Johnson has been named the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week after playing a key role in the Tigers' 66-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State this past Saturday at home.
Johnson and the Tigers allowed just 76 yards of total offense in the program's second-straight lop-sided shutout victory in a home opener. The Tiger defense turned in 14 plays of either negative yards or turnovers in the win over the Rangers.
Johnson was responsible for one of the turnovers, recording his first career interception in the second quarter and officially returning the pick for 10 yards after his touchdown was nullified with a penalty during the return.
The junior from Little Rock also had three tackles in the win, including a sack for a loss of 11 yards.
This is Johnson's first conference player of the week honor after earning a spot on the All-GAC second team as a safety in 2022.
