ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's soccer team used a stingy defense late in the game to hold off UT-Tyler on Thursday for a 2-1 win at home.
After surrendering the only UTT goal in the 70th minute, Ouachita kept the Patriots away from the net and only allowed two off-target shots in the final 20 minutes.
Overall, the Tigers (3-0-2) and Patriots (2-1-1) matched each other in shots on frame with four each. UTT held a 17-10 advantage in total shots.
Ouachita started the scoring in the 32nd minute when a hard pass into the box from
Sophia Valencia found freshman
Isabella Savattere, who turned around and sent a shot past the UTT goalkeeper. It was Savattere's first career goal and Valencia's first career assist.
Josilyn Kispert gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute with a shot sent in from just outside the box drifted right over the UTT goalkeeper and into the net. It was her first goal of the season and 10th of her career.
The Patriots took advantage of a pair of deflected shots to score in the 70th minute.
Ouachita continues its current homestand on Saturday with the team's final non-conference game of the year. The Tigers host Texas Woman's starting at 1 p.m. at Kluck Field.
