ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's soccer team earned its first Great American Conference win of the season in a 1-0 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday at home.
The win moves the Tigers to 4-0-4 overall and 1-0-1 in GAC games. NWOSU drops to 1-4-4 overall and 0-1-2.
The Tigers were the clear aggressors in the win with a final advantage of 20-4 in total shots and a 7-2 lead in shots on goal. Ouachita also held a commanding 9-1 lead in corner kicks.
Despite the many scoring opportunities, Ouachita was held to just one goal in the game, coming in the 64th minute by freshman
Hattie Gardner, which was set up by a cross from teammate
Sydni Perry. It was Gardner's first career goal, and for Perry, it was her second assist of the season and 11th of her career.
Michele Snow earned her fourth shutout victory of the season and had two saves on NWOSU's only shots on frame. It was her 20th career shutout and 29th career victory.
Wednesday's game capped a four-game homestand for Ouachita, which is back on the road this weekend to take on defending GAC champion Southwestern Oklahoma State. The Tigers and Bulldogs meet on Saturday, September 30 in Weatherford starting at 1 p.m.
