ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's soccer team earned its first win of the 2023 season on Sunday in a 3-0 victory over Southwest Baptist in the first home game of the year.
Jamie Fowler scored career goals number 18 and 19 in the win. Her first score came in the 10th minute when
Teagan Jaussi's pass down the middle of the field set up a one-on-one with the SBU goalkeeper. Fowler sent a shot just out of reach over the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. It was Jaussi's first career collegiate assist.
The Tigers went up 2-0 on a goal in the 22nd minute off a cross from the right side by
Gracen Turner, which set up Fowler for a tap-in goal. It was Turner's 11th career assist.
Madi Vana scored her first career collegiate goal in the 84th minute following a free kick from
Ashton Inman that set up a header attempt at the net by
Abbey Inman. The SBU goalkeeper wasn't able to get both hands on the header, and the loose ball in front of the net was punched in by Vana to finalize the scoring. Both Inmans earned an assist on play, their first of the season.
The Tigers (1-0-1) ended up with an 18-10 advantage in total shots and a 7-2 lead in shots on goal.
Michele Snow earned her first shutout of the season and 17th of her career with two saves in her complete-game between the posts.
The Tigers stay at home for their next game, Thursday, September 7 against Union. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Kluck Field.
