ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita men's cross country team earned its third victory of the year with a 23-point win Saturday afternoon at the 2024 Tiger Invitational.
Ouachita scored a near sweep with 18 points to place first of six teams. Fellow GAC member Southern Arkansas took second with 41 points. Texas A&M-Texarkana was next in third with 82 points, followed by Wiley University in fourth (114), LeMoyne-Owen in fifth (150), and Arkansas-Monticello in sixth (151).
Whit Lawrence was the first Tiger across the finish line in the 8K race, taking second overall, but earning first-place points with a time of 25:12.89.
Four of the first five runners, and the first four scoring runners, were all Tigers.
Gabriel Metoyer was the next Ouachita runner to finish, placing third with a time of 25:26.46.
Cade Swindle was next in fourth (25:40.99), followed by
Lawson Sanders in fifth (25:52.67).
Three more Tigers placed in the top 11.
Max Henry finished in ninth (26.34.01),
Josh Tibbs placed tenth (26:42.79), and Noah Embry took eleventh (26:47.37) to round out the top Ouachita runners. In total, 14 of the first 20 runners to cross the line were Tigers.
This was Ouachita's third team win of the season after taking first place at the Bob Gravett Invitational and West Florida's Argonaut Invitational in September.
The Tiger Invitational wraps up the regular season for Ouachita. The Tigers will now be preparing for the 2024 Great American Conference Championships, which are set to be held on Saturday, October 26 in Ada, Oklahoma.
