ARKADELPHIA – All 13 roster members played at least eight minutes, 12 scored at least four points, and 11 had at least two rebounds in route to a 102-45 victory for the Ouachita women's basketball team over Champion Christian on Wednesday night at home in the 2024-25 season opener.
The victory marks a 1-0 start for the Tigers and gives
Kiley Hill his first win as the leader of the Ouachita program.
Just like in last Friday night's exhibition victory over Texas A&M-Texarkana, the Tiger defense was smothering for the entire 40 minutes, turning in the best period in the fourth only giving up five Champion Christian points in the final 10 minutes.
Offensively, Ouachita shot 58 percent from the field (37-for-64) and 52 percent on three-pointers (12-for-23), highlighted by a 29-point second period shooting 80 percent from the field (12-for-15) to hold a 53-26 lead at the halftime break.
Ouachita dominated on the boards with a 41-14 lead in rebounds and had a plus-10 assist to turnover ratio.
Individually,
Laney Mears led the way with 17 points on a 6-for-7 shooting performance. She was a perfect 5-for-5 on three-pointers.
Audri Winfrey added 15 points and five rebounds.
Samantha Watson scored 13 points and turned in a game-high six rebounds.
Abbey Harrison also reached double-digits in scoring with 12 points.
Madeleine Tipton turned in a career-high eight assists.
Joey Babel finished with nine points, seven assists, and five rebounds.
The Tigers are off for the weekend and are set to return to action next Tuesday, November 19 on the road against Christian Brothers. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in Memphis.
