MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Ouachita women's basketball team went on the road for the first time of the season on Tuesday and is coming back to Arkadelphia with a victory after defeating Christian Brothers 61-36.
It was the third time this year the Tigers have held opponents to 45 points or less, including now two games only giving up 36.
The Tigers and Bucs kept it close in the first period with a slim lead for Ouachita at 15-10 heading into the second.
Ouachita pulled away in the second frame highlighted by a 16-0 run over nearly five minutes that left the Tigers up 31-13 with just under four minutes remaining before halftime. Ouachita shot 70 percent from the field (7-for-10) in the second period.
The Tigers held CBU to single digits in both the second and third periods to allow for the comfortable win despite Ouachita shooting 33 percent in the third period. The Tigers rallied back for a 64 percent shooting performance in the final 10 minutes.
Overall, Ouachita finished at 52 percent from the field (24-for-46), 38 percent on three-pointers (6-for-16), and 64 percent on foul shots (7-for-11). The Tigers had 22 assists on 24 made shots and committed only 10 turnovers. Ouachita also more than doubled up the Bucs on the boards with a 42-20 edge in rebounding.
The Bucs shot 26 percent from the field (13-for-50) and 21 percent on three-pointers (4-for-19).
Abbey Harrison led all scorers with 16 points.
Audri Winfrey just missed out on a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Laney Mears also reached double-digits in scoring with 12 points and turned in a game-high seven assists.
The Tigers are off for the rest of the week before returning to Vining Arena on Monday, November 25 for an exhibition game against Florida Memorial. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
