ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's soccer team took over first place in the Great American Conference standings for the time being with a 2-1 win over Harding on Wednesday in the final home game of the regular season.
The Tigers (6-7-3, 5-3-3 GAC) scored two second half goals and only surrendered one Bison goal on 21 total shots.
Harding (6-8-1, 5-4-1 GAC) opened the scoring in the 17th minute and held that 1-0 lead for the rest of the opening half.
Ouachita equalized quickly to start the second half when
Hattie Gardner scored her fourth goal of the season after a cross from
Allison Reece in the 47th minute.
The game-winner came in the 55th minute by
Allison Reece, her fourth of the year also. Reece's goal was set up by a cross from
Reese Brown, which was bumped to Reece in front of the net for the left-footed goal.
Harding led 21-11 in total shots and held a slim 9-6 margin in shots on frame.
In her third start of the season,
Taylor Hapgood went the full 90 minutes in goal, only allowing one score but collecting a career-high eight saves.
The Tigers will likely travel back to Alva, Oklahoma on Monday, November 11 to make up a game with Northwestern Oklahoma State that was rained out this past Saturday. If GAC officials determine the makeup is necessary for tournament seedings, Monday's game will kickoff at 3 p.m.
