INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – Jimmy Anderson earned a fourth-place finish to lead the Ouachita wrestling team at the 45th Annual Midwest Classic.
Anderson, ranked fifth in the nation at 133, went 6-2 in the bracket, highlighted by three straight wins in the championship bracket. He started with a pin in 2:31 over UNC-Pembroke's Cody Williams in the first round, followed by a 16-0 tech fall in 3:39 over East Stroudsburg's Evan Thompson in the second round. He then earned an 8-0 major over Maryville's Evan Binder – ranked 14th in the nation - in the third round.
In the quarterfinals, Anderson met up with second-ranked Reece Barnhardt from UMary with Barnhardt earning a 12-2 major. In the consolation bracket, Anderson started with a 5-0 decision over Central Missouri's James Wright to set up his third ranked-vs-ranked bout of the weekend. This time, Anderson took down third-ranked Jerry Echevarria of Gannon in a 9-0 major. In the next round, Anderson earned a late escape in the second period and held that margin in the third for a 1-0 decision over Grand Valley State's Jak Keller. 15th-ranked Max Shore of Tiffin won the third-place bout over Anderson with a pin in 1:44.
Brooks Schrimsher earned four wins for the Tigers in the 197 class. Jaylon Otero won twice in the 157. BK Seago earned one win the heavyweight bracket.
Following the Christmas break, the Tigers are set to open the 2025 portion of the schedule January 15 on the road in a dual against Carl Albert State.
