WACO, Texas – Ouachita Baptist University's Josiah Johnson has earned first team All-America status from the American Football Coaches Association for his performance during the 2024 season.

Johnson, the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was one of the best players on one of the best defensive units in the country this year.

The Little Rock native played and started in all 12 games this year at safety and helped Ouachita post a 10-2 final record while earning a share of the GAC championship and a berth into the NCAA playoffs.

Johnson is just the third player overall and the first defensive player from Ouachita to earn first team All-America honors from the AFCA. He is one of just two players in the GAC to earn first team honors this season.

This past season, Johnson totaled 72 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, and six additional pass breakups.

"Josiah is one of the most physical defenders in the history of our program," said Ouachita Head Coach Todd Knight. "His ability to tackle, get off blocks, and just make plays is incredible. He is one of only two starting players that play on all four phases of special teams.  He is one of the most well-respected players on the team, and his love for his teammates is evident in the way he leads."

In addition to being named GAC Defensive Player of the Year, Johnson also earned spots on the All-GAC First Team and the D2 Conference Commissioners Association All-Region First Team. Last year, Johnson earned All-America honors from the Associated Press.
