ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season and completed the home-and-away sweep over Christian Brothers with a 65-47 victory over the Bucs Monday night inside Bill Vining Arena.
The Tigers beat CBU 61-36 on November 19 in Memphis.
The two squads exchanged blows early on Monday night with three lead changes and four tied scores in the first 15 minutes. Ouachita regained the lead for the final time on a jumper from
Brooke Smith with 4:30 remaining before halftime. Including Smith's basket, Tigers went on an 11-0 run over the next three minutes to hold a 10-point lead with 1:24 remaining before the break. Ouachita led 31-25 at intermission.
The Tigers outscored CBU 12-1 in the first six minutes of the third period to run the lead up to 17. The lead hit 20 points in the final two minutes of the third with Ouachita's largest lead of 22 coming on a trey from
Kayden Porter at the 1:17 mark.
Both squads scored 11 in the final 10 minutes.
The Tigers finished the game at 53 percent from the field (24-for-45), 56 percent on three-pointers (9-for-16), and 50 percent on foul shots (8-for-16). Ouachita outrebounded CBU 35-15. The Bucs shot 31 percent overall (17-for-54).
Laney Mears tied CBU's Jada Hood for the game-high in scoring, both with 15 points.
Heidi Robinson and
Kayden Porter also reached double-digits in scoring with 10 points each.
The Tigers open up Great American Conference play this weekend on the road in Oklahoma, taking on East Central this Thursday, December 5 in Ada and then heading down to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday in Durant.
