Josiah Johnson headlines three selections for the Ouachita Baptist University football team to the 2024 NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Super Region Three teams.
Johnson, who was recently named the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Year, has earned first team all-region honors and will now be considered for All-America honors, which will be announced later in December.
Joining Johnson on the all-region teams from the Tigers are junior offensive lineman
Dylan Horton and freshman punter
Tom Weston, both earning a spot on the second team.
Johnson was a key factor in Ouachita's defense being one of the best in the nation this season. The Little Rock native ended the year with 72 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions, and six additional pass breakups.
Horton started all 12 games this year for the Tigers at left tackle, but also played guard in short yardage situations. The Royal, Arkansas native graded out at 89 percent for the season. He only allowed two sacks and five pressures, and also totaled 62 domination blocks and 35 knockdowns.
In his first playing season with the Tigers, Weston played a significant role in the field position battle all season long. The Fremantle, Australia native led the GAC and is currently seventh in the nation in punting with an average of 44.2 yards per punt. He is second in the region in punts downed inside the opponent 20-yard line with 23. His 76-yard punt in week five against Southeastern Oklahoma State is the second-longest in SR3 this season.
These three selections helped Ouachita extend the program's streak of consecutive winning seasons to 16, which is the longest in school history and also the longest current streak among all college football teams in the state of Arkansas. The 2024 Tigers also claimed a share of the GAC championship, the league-best seventh title in program history, and earned a spot in the NCAA playoffs, the sixth playoffs appearance in program history. Ouachita finished 10-2 this season, marking the fifth season in program history with at least 10 wins.
