DURANT, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's basketball is headed home from its first Great American Conference road trip of the season following a 72-66 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers (3-2, 0-2 GAC) dominated the first period, leading by as much as 12 at the 1:55 mark and holding a 19-9 lead heading into the second. The tides turned in the second with Ouachita dropping from 53 percent shooting to 27 percent, while Southeastern (5-3, 2-0 GAC) answered back with 50 percent shooting to win the frame 24-15 and take a one-point lead of 34-33 into the locker room at the break.
Ouachita rallied back to hold a lead for the final four minutes of the third period to lead 51-50 heading into the final 10 minutes. The Savage Storm regained the lead on the first possession of the fourth period and never trailed despite Ouachita tying the score on five different occasions.
Statistically, the biggest difference in the game was a 20-for-21 free-throw shooting performance from the Savage Storm. The Tigers only made nine trips to the charity stripe, knocking down seven.
Madeleine Tipton led all scorers with 22 points. Brooke Smith finished just shy of a double-double with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Tigers are back at home on Thursday, December 12 for a GAC matchup against Southern Arkansas. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at Bill Vining Arena.
