ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's tennis team opened the 2024 portion of its schedule this weekend at home, going 2-1 with wins over Christian Brothers (4-3) and Arkansas-Fort Smith (4-0) as well as a loss to Dallas Baptist (4-3).
The Tigers started the weekend with a close loss to Dallas Baptist on Thursday. After getting swept in doubles, Ouachita started its comeback attempt with singles wins by
Sadbaroy Kholdarova and
Ruxandra Tolescu.
Olivia Gaston also earned a win in singles, but the Patriots had already clinched the match.
On Friday, Ouachita earned its first team win of the spring taking on Christian Brothers. The match started with doubles wins for the Tigers in first and third positions with the duos of
Austynn Crocker/
Natalia Zamora Caprirolo and Marlee Bledose/
Shelly Davilus earning the victory to put the Tigers up 1-0. In singles, Ouachita earned wins in second and third positions from Zamora and Tolescu before Davilus clinched the win in fifth position.
Saturday's format against Arkansas-Fort Smith was changed due to other matches in the day going long. The Tigers and Lions started with singles and played to clinch, which worked out for Ouachita with the first four positions coming away victorious. The wins came from Crocker, Zamora, Tolescu, and Kholdarova.
The Tigers head to Texas next weekend to face off against UT-Tyler on Friday, February 17 in Tyler before heading over to Plano on Saturday to battle Texas A&M-Kingsville in a neutral site match.
