DURANT, Oklahoma – The Ouachita women's basketball team opened its weekend trip to Oklahoma with a 75-68 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday night.
Ouachita trailed for all of the first two periods and found itself down 11 early in the third period, but the Tigers rallied to outscore the Savage Storm 22-9 in the rest of the third period to hold a two-point lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Tigers stretched that lead up to four points early in the fourth period, but the Storm responded with a quick 8-0 run to regain the lead. Southeastern got up by double-digits again in the final minute going 8-for-8 at the foul line.
Ouachita finished the game shooting 38 percent from the field (25-for-66) and 35 percent on three-pointers (8-for-23). Southeastern shot 44 percent overall (22-for-50) and 27 percent on three-pointers (6-for-22).
One of the biggest stat differences in the game was a 25-10 edge for the Storm in points off free throws. Ouachita was 10-for-12 with Southeastern being charged for just 12 fouls. Southeastern was 25-for-29 with 24 fouls charged to Ouachita players.
Laney Mears led the Tigers with 18 points.
Madeleine Tipton added 17.
The road trip continues on Saturday in Ada against East Central. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
