ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita men's basketball team dropped its senior night matchup against Southern Arkansas University on Thursday night at Bill Vining Arena.
Prior to the game, Ouachita honored its three seniors.
Tylar Haynes,
Kobe Dunlap, and
Marvin Williams-Dunn. The three seniors have played big roles for the Tigers in their time here. Haynes recently joined the 1000-point club at Ouachita, making him the 17th Tiger to do so. Dunlap and Williams-Dunn are both four-year players at Ouachita with Dunlap seeing action in 80 games and Williams-Dunn making 97 appearances in those four seasons with Ouachita.
The game got off to a slow start for Ouachita (8-18, 6-15 GAC), with Southern Arkansas (11-16, 9-12 GAC) taking the early lead. The Tigers brought the game back within one point early, but the Muleriders were quick to respond and pushed their lead out to double digits by the 13-minute mark. Ouachita cut the deficit to single digits a few times in the first half, but it was not enough to and SAU took a 15-point, 47-32 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Muleriders stayed in the driver's seat and continued to extend their lead. Any time the Tigers made a move to cut into the lead, SAU was there to answer. Southern Arkansas held on in the second half to win by the score of 88-64.
Emorie Knox led the Tiger offense with 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Tylar Haynes was next with 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting. Haynes also led the team in steals with four.
Knox and Haynes tied with
Rollin Belton for the team lead in rebounds with four each. Williams-Dunn and
Terran Williams tied to the team-high in assists with three each.
The Tigers will look to bounce back in their final game of the season on Saturday, March 2 when they travel to take on the Boll Weevils of the University of Arkansas-Monticello in Monticello, Arkansas at 3 p.m.
