SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – A second half surge made the difference as the Ouachita men's basketball team fell to the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist 71-64 on Saturday afternoon.
Ouachita (6-13, 4-10 GAC) started slow, falling behind Oklahoma Baptist (10-10, 7-7 GAC) 9-0 over the first four minutes of the game. The Tigers woke up and went on a 9-0 run of their own to tie the game five minutes later. For the rest of the half, it was neck in neck, with the Bison only leading by five at most. OKB took a two-point lead with 36 seconds to go, but
Kobe Dunlap hit a buzzer-beating layup to tie the game at 23-23 going into halftime.
The two teams went back-and-forth to start the second half. The lead changed five times in the first ten minutes, with Ouachita leading by as much as five points on more than one occasion. But around the nine-minute mark, Oklahoma Baptist retook the lead for the final time with 8:53 left to play. From there, the Bison extended their lead to double digits. The Tigers tried cutting into the deficit, but it was too late. Ouachita dropped its game by the final score of 71-64.
Four Tigers reached double figures in scoring, led by
Terran Williams with 15 points.
Emorie Knox was next with 12, followed by
Marvin Williams-Dunn and
Reggie Martin with 10 points apiece.
Terran Williams also tied with
Tylar Haynes for the lead in rebounding with five each. Martin and
MJ Leslie each had three assists to lead the team.
The Tigers will look to get back on track when they host the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, February 8 in Bill Vining Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
