EDMOND, Oklahoma – The Ouachita men's tennis team exited the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association/Great American Conference Championship Tournament on Thursday with a 4-1 loss in the semifinals to ninth-ranked Washburn.
The Ichabods started the match with wins on court one and two in doubles to take the 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Ouachita's
Phil Exner earned the first singles point with a two-set win on court two before the Ichabods rallied on courts one and three to come from behind and win in the third set in both respective matchups.
The clincher for the Ichabods came at line four with a close battle between Ouachita's
Ramon Strassmann and Washburn's Santiago Rendon with Rendon coming away with the point in two sets.
The Tigers will now be seeking an at-large selection into NCAA regionals, which would be the program's 21st appearance in the NCAA tournament. The selection show is Monday, May 6 at 7 p.m. central time online at
www.ncaa.com. Ouachita is ranked No. 2 in this week's central region rankings.
