RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita football team has been voted No. 2 in the 2024 Great American Conference preseason coaches poll.
The Tigers earned 106 poll points and also picked up one first place vote following a 9-2 finish in 2023, which led to a tie for second place in the league.
Coming back from that 9-2 squad are 59 lettermen and 12 all-conference performers. The Tigers are riding a streak of 15 consecutive winning seasons, which is the longest active streak among all college football programs in the state of Arkansas. Ouachita has posted at least nine wins in each of the last six seasons.
Defending conference and national champion Harding is picked as the preseason favorite for 2024 with 120 points and 10 of the 12 first-place votes. Ouachita follows in second. Southern Arkansas checks in at third with 100 points and the other first-place vote. Henderson State, which made the NCAA playoffs last year and also tied Ouachita and SAU for second in the league, came in fourth with 96 points.
The 2024 campaign gets underway in a little more than a month. The Tigers open up at home on Thursday, September 5 at 7 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
