ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita women's soccer team opened the 2024 season on Friday with a 3-0 loss to Northeastern State at home.
The first half featured a defensive battle from both teams with the only score coming on an own goal after a NSU corner kick bounced off a Ouachita defender and into the net in the 23rd minute.
With 1:20 remaining in the first half, the game was halted by a lightning delay, which turned into a rainstorm. The delay lasted nearly an hour, which resulted in a shortened halftime.
In the second half, the Riverhawks went up 2-0 in the 48th minute after an errant Ouachita pass on the back line left NSU with a one-on-one breakaway for the easy score.
The final score from NSU came in the 62nd minute.
NSU finished with a 21-6 advantage in total shots and an 8-4 edge in shots on frame. McKenna Wright led the Tigers in her collegiate debut with three shots, all on goal. Allison Reece recorded Ouachita's other shot on frame.
The Tigers are back in action next Thursday, September 12 on the road against Rogers State.
