HAYS, Kan. – The Ouachita men's soccer team came up short Saturday in a 3-0 loss to Great American Conference leader Fort Hays State in Kansas.
The undefeated, seventh-ranked Tigers of Fort Hays State (9-0-2, 5-0-0 GAC) struck early as sophomore Oliver Wright found the net in the 16th minute by finishing a setup from senior Joseph Street to take a 1-0 lead. Fort Hays took advantage of a 6-1 edge in corner kicks and pressed with a persistent attack that led to a significant 25-2 edge in shots.
Ouachita (1-7-2, 0-5-0) was forced to play a man down for the final 70 minutes after freshman midfielder Andrew Castellanos was issued a red card for denying a goal-scoring opportunity, but senior goalkeeper Dillon Staal secured four saves in 78 minutes of play to keep it close.
Ouachita had a chance to score with just 10 minutes left to play when freshman Eddie Uribe broke free down the right side of the field, but Fort Hays goalkeeper Payton Roehrich saved the lone shot on target to hold the Tigers scoreless for a sixth straight game.
The Tigers aim to break through and snap the current five-game skid at Harding on Thursday.
