SEARCY, Ark. – The Ouachita Baptist men's soccer team rolled into Searcy, struck twice in the opening 18 minutes and held off a second-half push from Harding to earn their first road and Great American Conference win of the season, 2-1, Thursday night at the Stevens Soccer Complex.
Freshman defender James Lovoy ignited Ouachita's offense in the 15th minute, finishing a precise crosser from junior Cody Tice into the top right corner of the net to score his first goal of the season. The Tigers (2-7-2, 1-5-0 GAC) capitalized on a corner kick just three minutes later as sophomore Xavier O'Dwyer sent home a header from senior midfielder Alexis Murillo to extend the lead to 2-0.Â
Ouachita kept Harding (2-8-2, 0-5-1 GAC) scoreless for nearly an hour before Hayden Teixeira cut the deficit in half with a strike from the top of the box on an assist from Noah Legge. Sophomore goalkeeper Isaac Murie secured five saves in his first start of the season. Despite a 15-9 edge in shots for the Bisons, the Tigers found the back of the net twice on their four shots on target to snap the five-match skid.Â
Ouachita continues its GAC road trip on Saturday against Rogers State in Claremore, Okla.
