DURANT, Oklahoma – The Ouachita volleyball team collected its ninth straight victory and remained unbeaten in Great American Conference play with a three-set sweep over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday in Texoma.
Final set scores were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-17. The Tigers improve to 19-3 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Savage Storm drops to 7-13 overall and 2-7 in the GAC.
Southeastern posted a 5-0 run near the end of the first set, but the Tigers had the lead from the early going and used a 7-0 run to build a big advantage early.
Set two was a game of runs. Both teams put together four-point runs to keep either squad from building big leads. The final set was close early, but the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to go up 18-12, which was ultimately enough to finish off the Storm for Ouachita's third straight conference sweep and fifth overall of the season.
Individually, Ouachita had balanced firepower.
Kailey Thedford and
Leah Gardner led with 11 kills apiece, while
Haley Fairchild added 10. Fairchild also led the team with three blocks.
Courtney Hanson had a match-high 39 assists and 10 digs for her 14th double-double of the season.
Kylie Kisgen turned in a team-high 18 digs.
Emily Adams chipped in with seven kills and two blocks.
Riley Braziel had six kills and 14 digs.
The Tigers are back at home next Thursday and Friday, October 23 and 24 to host Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist, respectively. The SNU match will be a Pink Out. The OKB game will be Ouachita Volleyball Alumni Day.
