BETHANY, Okla. — The Ouachita women's soccer team seemed poised to bounce back after taking the lead in the second half, but Southern Nazarene retaliated with a pair of goals across a five-minute stretch to turn the tide and hand the Tigers a 2-1 road loss at Wes Harmon Field.
Ouachita struck first as sophomore midfielder Olivia Erskine drilled a goal from the top right corner of the box on an assist from junior Isabella Savattere in the 52nd minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. Savattere tallied her Great American Conference-leading fifth assist this season.
Southern Nazarene (5-8-1, 3-5-0 GAC) erased the deficit in the 63rd minute after junior JQ Molgaard recovered the rebound and snuck in the equalizer. Just five minutes later, sophomore Ella Adams delivered the go-ahead winner for the Crimson Storm.
Ouachita (4-6-4, 3-2-3 GAC) pressed with 14 shots, including five shots on goal, but the Tigers could not convert while trying to level the score down the stretch. Junior Reese Brown and sophomore McKenna Wright both led the attack by attempting three shots apiece. Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Hapgood secured four saves against 15 shots from the Crimson Storm, including six shots on target.
Despite suffering its first loss to SNU since 2017, Ouachita remains in fourth place in the GAC standings, needing to secure their spot among the top four to reach the conference tournament. The Tigers intend to get back in the win column at home against Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday, with kickoff set for noon at Kluck Field.
