ARKADELPHIA -- The Ouachita women's soccer team emerged victorious Saturday with a commanding 4-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist on a slick Kluck Field.
The Tigers (5–6–4, 4–2–3 GAC) never trailed and built a two-goal cushion in the first half despite heavy rain that constantly drenched the playing surface throughout the match. In the fifth minute, junior Isabella Savattere lofted a ball from midfield that bounced inside the box and sophomore midfielder McKenna Wright had no time to waste before getting Ouachita on the board, striking her third goal of the season through the low right corner of the net. Junior midfielder Madi Vana doubled the lead late in the first half, finishing a set up from junior Isabella Savattere and freshman Kaylee McKinley in the 39th minute.
After the break, the Tigers continued to press executing a masterful play as juniors Savannah Meyers and Reese Brown connected on a fast break to feed senior Olivia Erskine to deliver her team-leading sixth goal of the season to extend the lead to 3–0 in the 53rd minute. Just 10 minutes after the Bison (1–10–4, 1–7–1 GAC) responded with a goal in the 69th minute, Ouachita answered back as Wright buried her second goal of the day to seal the victory. The Tigers last two goals were both set up by Brown, who finished the day with two assists.
Ouachita freshman goalkeeper Rylie LeBlanc collected seven saves in her first start of the season while fending off constant pressure from the Lady Bison, who outshot the Tigers 13–16, but managed to break through just once.Â
Ouachita returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 30 at home against Northwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Kluck Field.Â
