TIGERS OVERPOWER VIKINGS ON SENIOR NIGHT

ARKADELPHIA -- Ouachita overpowered Carl Albert State on the mat Wednesday, rolling to a 34-9 victory on Senior Night inside the Sturgis Physical Education Center. The Tigers picked up seven wins in 10 bouts, including two pins and two tech falls.

Junior 125-pounder Justin Shaw rallied back in a thrilling opening bout. Trailing by two points with under one minute left in the third period, Shaw used a blast double to secure a late takedown and survived a late scramble as time expired to earn a 12-10 decision over Hunter Jackson.

Fourth-ranked senior captain Jimmy Anderson followed up at 133 working a ruthless front head lock to pile up three first-period takedowns. Anderson used a blast double leg to secure his fourth takedown and torqued his opponent to expose his back to the mat and claim a 21-2 technical fall in 3:38.

After the Vikings responded with their first win, 149-pounder Caleb Andrews retaliated with a statement 6-5 win to reclaim the momentum. Trailing 3-2 with 30 seconds left in the second period, Andrews worked through a scramble to lock his hands in a near-side cradle, then transitioned to a low single-leg and beat the buzzer to take a 5-3 lead into the third period.

157-pound freshman Johnny White put on a clinic, snapping his opponent to the mat and racing behind to secure the first takedown. White ran three tilts to rack up three consecutive near-fall counts and forced a first-period stoppage with a 17-1 technical fall in just 2:44.

Freshman 174-pounder Ethan Day has a knack for storming back and established an early pace his opponent could not handle. After Day found himself trailing 6-1, the freshman countered with a surgical trio of takedowns to take the lead midway through the second period. Day used a turk and a half-nelson to force his opponent to flip over for the pin at 4:47.

Heavyweight BK Seago controlled the final bout and finished the dual in emphatic fashion. It took just five seconds for Seago to granby roll and use the leverage of his heavier opponent against him as the junior caught him flat on his back to deliver a pin in 3:25. Seago, who was named Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday, picked up his fourth straight bonus-point win.

Ouachita (3-2) travels to Texas for a Friday night match at Tarleton State at 6 p.m.
