RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – The Ouachita women's basketball team led early and stayed close with Arkansas Tech through the first three periods, but a 10-point differential in the final frame resulted in a 63-53 win for the Golden Suns on Saturday.
Ouachita held the advantage in the first period and led by as much as 11 early in the second period before Tech went on a 12-0 run to regain the lead for the first time since the first point of the game.
The Tigers responded with an 8-0 run to get back on top by as much as seven with 2:18 remaining in the second. Tech answered with a 9-2 run to close the half and force a 29-all tie at the break.
The third period went back-and-forth with neither team leading by more than four.
Heidi Robinson made a jumper with one minute remaining in the third, which finalized the scoring in the period to create a 44-all deadlock heading into the fourth.
ATU outscored Ouachita 19-9 in the final 10 minutes. The Tigers were limited to just three made field goals in the fourth period, which allowed the Suns to lead by as much as 13 points.
Laney Mears and
Madeleine Tipton led the Tigers with 14 points each.
Heidi Robinson added 11 points.
The Tigers are back at home for their next two games, hosting league-leading Southern Nazarene on Thursday and Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday.
