RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Ouachita men's basketball players
Hobert Grayson and
Shaun Williams have swept the GAC Player of the Week Awards after their performances against East Central and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
Williams was named the GAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the league in scoring with an average of 25.5 points per game. The St. Louis, Missouri native also led the GAC in three-point percentage (72.7), three-pointers made (8), free throw percentage (100.0), and ranked second in field goal percentage (72.0).
In the Tigers' 83-58 win over Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday, Williams dropped 29 points, the most in a single game by anyone in the GAC last week. His 29 points came on 9-of-13 shooting with a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Williams added another 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, including going 4-for-5 from three-point range in the win against East Central on Saturday. The senior guard currently ranks fourth in the GAC in scoring with 19.3 points per game.
Grayson earned GAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for grabbing a total of 29 rebounds last week. He recorded 11 more boards than the next closest rebounder. 27 of Grayson's 29 rebounds were defensive, 13 more than the player who ranked second. Grayson's average of 17.5 points per game put him in the GAC's top 10 for the week.
The Gonzales, Louisiana native posted two double doubles in last week's games. In the win over SEOSU, Grayson went even with 17 points and 17 rebounds. The 17 boards were the most in a single game in the GAC last week. The junior forward added 18 points and 12 rebounds in the 79-65 win over ECU. Grayson leads the conference in rebounding with 11.4 rebounds per game and ranks second in scoring with 23.7 points per game.
Nationally, Grayson ranks third in double doubles, sixth in rebounding, and ninth in scoring.
This is Williams' first GAC Player of the Week award and Grayson's seventh of the season.
As a team, Ouachita leads the GAC in scoring (84.1), field goal percentage (50.0), three-point percentage (39.3), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.56), turnover average (10.0), and assists per game (15.55).
The Tigers will be back in action this week on the road as they make their final Oklahoma road trip of the season to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday, February 6 a 7:30 p.m. in Weatherford followed by Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday, February 9 at 3 p.m. in Alva.
