MAGNOLIA, Arkansas – The best men's basketball player in the Great American Conference has now been named one of the best in the region.
Ouachita's Hobert Grayson has been selected to the NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Central Region First Team for the 2024-25 season.
He is one of five players to be selected to the first team for the central region, which consists of teams from the GAC, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association, and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The junior was recently named the GAC Player of the Year, the GAC Defensive Player of the Year, and the GAC Newcomer of the Year, along with unanimous first team all-conference honors for his performance during the 2024-25 season. He is the first player in GAC history to earn three superlative awards in the same season.
Grayson finished the season averaging a double-double at 21.8 points and 11 rebounds per game. He ranks in the top five of the GAC in 15 different categories, including leading the league in double-doubles (17), field goal attempts (500), rebounds (331), rebounds per game (11), and defensive rebounds per game (8.3). On the national level, he is fifth in double-doubles and fifth in rebounds.
His 653 points and 331 rebounds this season both rank fourth in the Ouachita single-season record charts. His 52 steals this year are tied for eighth.
The Gonzales, Louisiana native helped Ouachita finish 22-8 this season, marking the most successful season in terms of total wins in the NCAA era. The 22 victories are the most total wins for the program in a single season since 1987.
With his first team all-region selection, Grayson will now be on the ballot for D2CCA All-America honors, which will be released later in March. Grayson is Ouachita men's basketball's first all-region honoree since 2016.
