ARKADELPHIA – The Ouachita men's tennis team returned home on Friday to take on 12th-ranked Texas-Tyler for its third match of the week, resulting in a 5-2 win for the Patriots.
Due to high winds, the match had to be moved inside the Ward Tennis Center.
UT-Tyler earned the doubles point by winning on courts one and two.
Elias Lagger and
Moritz Buss helped Ouachita avoid being swept in doubles with a win on court three. Court one saw a close match of top 10 doubles teams. UT-Tyler's Carel Wessel and Daniil Felker, ranked third in the nation, took down Ouachita's
Phil Exner and
Ramon Strassmann, ranked sixth by a score of 6-4.
Court one in singles also saw a battle of top 10 athletes with second-ranked Exner beating sixth-ranked Wessel convincingly. Lagger was responsible for Ouachita's other point with a two-set win at No. 3 singles.
Three of UT-Tyler's singles wins needed a tiebreaker to determine a victor.
The Tigers are back on the road this Sunday for their fourth and final match of the week, taking on No. 5 Washburn in a neutral site matchup in Edmond, Oklahoma.
