FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas – For the first time in the history of the Great American Conference, the Ouachita women's tennis team will compete in the second round of the league's championship tournament following a 4-2 victory over Henderson State on Friday.
The Tigers fell behind in doubles, losing two of three to give the Reddies a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Ouachita turned up the heat in singles, ignited by a dominating win on court one from 36th-ranked Sadbaroy Kholdarova, which included a shutout in the second set over HSU's Kristina Kozlova. Ali May followed with a convincing victory of her own on court six to put the Tigers up 2-1.
Anastasia Myachina gave the Tigers their third point with a second-set tiebreaker win on court four, while HSU earned its second point with a three-set win on court five.
The clincher came on court three with Alice Kubler winning a three-set thriller over HSU's Angela Georgeiva.
The Tigers move on to the tournament semifinals to face top-seeded Southern Arkansas on Saturday at 11 a.m.
